What is considered a “green building” project?
Specifically, “green building” means taking environmental considerations and resource efficiency into consideration for each step of home building and land development process to minimize the “footprint” affecting our environment. Specific considerations include energy efficiency, water conservation, resource conservation, indoor environmental quality, site design, homeowner education, utilization of green business practices and also global, regional and local impacts to the environment.

In evaluation of “green” sealants and adhesives, what does VOC mean?
VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compound. VOCs are any group of organic (carbon based) compounds that readily evaporate into the atmosphere at room temperature. Consequently, any petroleum-solvent based product will typically have a high VOC level and is not considered environmentally friendly. All NOVAFLEX® products have low VOC levels and meet both the specifications of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

What is “LEED”?
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary, consensus-based national rating system for buildings designed, constructed and operated for improved environmental and human health performance. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the- art strategies in five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality.   (See www.usgbc.org )

Is there a difference in performance of NOVAFLEX® green sealants and adhesives versus conventional solvent based sealants and adhesives?
NOVAFLEX® sealants and adhesives have been engineered with superior technology that will allow them to have optimum weatherability, optimum UV resistance, low VOC content and can be used in a greater range of application temperatures than typical solvent based or polyurethane sealants and adhesives while maintaining exceptional adhesion properties to most common building substrates, including polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) metal coatings.
